A Georgian house cut into four flats is four different jobs
Most of what we clean in N1 was built as one house and has been three or four flats since the 1970s. The lower ground floor has a kitchen where the scullery was, low light and a floor that is usually stone or engineered wood. The first floor has the good ceilings, the tall sash windows and the original cornice. The top flat has the sloped ceilings and the worst access.
They share an address and almost nothing else. A price given over the phone from a bedroom count is a guess in this postcode, which is why we ask which floor you are on before we quote.
Sash windows, cornices and floors that cannot be soaked
Original sash windows have tracks, beading and a horn at the top of the lower sash, and all three collect a grey film that a wipe across the glass leaves behind. Cornice and ceiling roses hold dust in the undercut where nobody looks up. Stripped pine boards and old parquet are sealed with wax or oil far more often than the owner thinks, and a wet mop lifts the finish rather than the dirt.

You are based in Enfield. Why book a cleaner from outside Islington?
Because of what it costs and how it is quoted. Our overheads are a yard in EN3, not a shopfront on Upper Street, and we quote a flat by what is in it rather than by the hour. What you give up is the drop-in visit: N1 work is booked as a planned job with a fixed start, usually early, not squeezed in at an hour's notice.
Do you charge extra for the Congestion Charge?
Most of Islington is outside the zone, which ends at Pentonville Road and City Road, so for the great majority of N1 the question does not arise. Where a job does sit inside it, we tell you before you book rather than after the invoice.
Can you clean a flat with original floorboards and a stair runner?
Yes, and they need opposite treatments. Waxed or oiled boards are cleaned barely damp, never flooded, because water lifts the finish. A wool stair runner is done by hot-water extraction with a hand tool, one tread at a time, and it will be damp for a few hours afterwards.
Do you work with letting agents in Islington?
